When moving to a new place it is quite difficult to decide on the decor style you’d like to go for. Why? Because sometimes you are move in with the existing set up and it is not possible to change it.
Our new house has been firstly decorated two years back in time, when I, frankly speaking did not really care about how it will work. So this year, when we finally move in, we felt the entire pressure of my poorly thought choices. So whats in here? Purple walls. Yes, absolutely purple all three floors.
Secondly, when we arrived apart from the white furniture in the kitchen, we have also got some very classic khaki & green sofas, which absolutely do not match.
Also, since we quite liked the Chinese design and Chinese Antique Markets, we brought some of the essentials – Abacus and Feng Shui lions. Combining it all and getting inspired by Pinterest, we have decided that the best way to go is Bohemian Interior.
It might seem from my words that we were forced into Bohemian decorating, however, it is not true. We had a few reasons to choose it.
When you look through Pinterest design, you might notice that a lot of interiors look like people are never going to live there as they are so “clean” and “surgical”. Unfortunately, being quite messy and lazy, I will never be able to keep it. Therefore, having minimalistic / white / Swedish design is not an option, even though there some nice ideas and things I really love.
Classic interiors seem to be quite old school, however, they have some cool stuff to offer, like different fabrics and textiles and very “bossy” armchairs.
As for the loft design, for me it is something that will still be considered quite “cold and not welcoming”.
Bohemian interior (or boho as they call it) can combine them all in one place. You can adopt anything you like from each style, mix and match it (not even always required) and still have quite a unique, welcoming, comforting and warm design.
Where to start?
When you move in a new place with absolutely nothing, it is important for you to plan what stuff to get first and what you can wait for. You should always have an idea in your head about everything you want to do in a long run. As some of the essentials are quite difficult and time-consuming to change (and also expensive).
I would personally recommend to look through Pinterest and Design Blogs / Websites to get an image of what you want. Also, the best thing is to create a mood board to keep the focus.
Where are we right now?
We have moved in our apartment around 3 weeks ago and so far, we just got the essentials and ideas of what we want our apartment to look like. Additionally we have created a plan of what and in what order we will get for the apartment. By now we have just got essentials – dining table & chairs, dining lamp, mattress and bedroom shelves and little things like blankets and decor elements. At this moment our home still looks like it is far away from being a warm boho haven.
As we are just starting the process, which will be developing in a next couple of months, I would like to share our experiences of self-decorating on budget. Join us and see the ideas and updates. And for now, I will just let you see a couple of inspiring bohemian interiors to show you the beauty of it.
