Hilton Jinan South Hotel

Another week, another travel, another staycation, another Hilton. Again, being HHonors and having a special rate we decided to stay in Hilton Jinan South Hotel. Honestly speaking, I found it on the HH website and only then check the Tripadvisor, which had pretty good review, but I did not check the location. Anyways, even when I found out where it was, we decided to stick with this choice.

I have already shared the Jinan adventure impressions and the food tasting experience, and now it is time to share how the hotel worked for us.

Hilton Jinan South Hotel Location.

Hilton Jinan is located in the south of the city, and I have to say it was a little bit out of the main attractions, however, it was still reachable. If you are traveling from Jinan Xi (Jinan West Train station) be aware that it is actually quite far away – around 40-45 minutes by taxi and around RMB50 to pay.

It is a brand new building located around the main road of Jinan city and it overlooks the highway, some mountains and the residential area, which is pretty nice.

For your reference, it takes around 20 minutes by taxi to get to Baitu (RMB20), approximately 25 minutes to Daming Lake (RMB 20-25) and around 30 minutes from Heihu (The Black Tiger spring) to the hotel (RMB 35).

There is a mall literally next door to the hotel and another park.

I already knew that we should expect really nice room as the hotel is brand new – opened in the autumn of last year. When we went up we were surprised – we got a corner room with two window walls. The room was spacious, bright and attractive.

Unfortunately, as it is one of the smaller and local cities some of the things are not exactly what you’d expect. The mini bar was really not that amazing, the amenities were quite limited, but this time we finally got 2 bathrobes, 2 pairs of slippers and double amenities.

Hilton Jinan offers 3 restaurants, a lounge, swimming pool and a gym for the guests, however, finding food at 10.45pm was extremely difficult.

Even though there were two Chinese restaurants, we were completely ignored as they were already closing. We did not see the menus but the contemporary Chinese design seemed to be very attractive.

The all day dining called “Open to suggestion” was interesting. I expected to grab something to eat there, but it was clear that we were too late even though the restaurant was open until the midnight. So we did not get a chance to experience dining with Hilton Jinan until the morning of next day.

However, we got a chance to go to swimming pool and sauna. As it is open late, we went for an evening swim. The water was cold but bearable. The great plus was that they offer hammam and sauna there. Hammam, unfortunately, was closed as it was late but sauna was great. New, well maintained and just pleasant. The only downside is it is in the lockers so it is separate. It is quite odd to sit there by yourself for some time.

The gym is probably the most modern version that I have seen so far. Large, clean and it offers a great view being located on the 30something floor.

Hilton Jinan South Hotel Breakfast.

This is my favorite part of the hotel stay. I love hotel breakfast for some reason… The breakfast here was more local than in Beijing however the quality was still pretty high up.

The selection was pretty wide – eggs, noodles, wontons, congee and typical Western breakfast dishes. The upsetting part was no fresh juice but the pastry selection made up for that. It is truly breakfast with “the view” if it is not foggy…

I really enjoyed the noodle soup and salad selection as normally it is not that great in hotels… But all in all, it was a pleasant experience.

Service.

The service was pleasant. The staff members really tried and I have to give them a credit for that, but I am not too sure if they knew what they were doing.

First of all, check in was more or less smooth, as there was no ATM to put the cash deposit forward, we just decided to go with “no post” option where we had to pay for all additional charges in cash upon consumption.

The check out was smooth, but then we asked the concierge to book us tickets for train to return to Beijing. Well, that took 1+hr and in the end we ended up spending two hours sitting separately without being informed.

In general, the hotel was nice, with a good sleep quality, acceptable service but a little far. Consider that when you book a hotel in Jinan. It is a great property for a relaxing time in though… So far we have visited 3 Hilton Hotels in China: Hilton Wangfujing, Hilton Sanyuan and Hilton Jinan, and the last one is probably the best!
