Are you looking for a less mainstream place to visit in Moscow during the weekend? The place I would suggest is Red October (Krasniy Oktyabr) – candy factory, which has turned into the arts district. It is located quite close to the metro station Kropotkinskaya… and this place opens really great views over Moscow.
What can you find there?
There is a bunch of mini stores, selling some clothing, a couple of cafes, some bookstores and galleries, which are pretty cool.
One of the galleries we visited was a Photogallery of Lumber Brothers showing the French photography and a special exhibition of an Arctic collection. The art can be truly impressive and I did not get disappointed. Prepare to pay 430RUB for a comparatively small gallery of two rooms.
Walking around is just great – coffee shops will be a great pit stop to warm up in the conditions of Russian winter; in the shops you can find a lot curiosities and just enjoy the view.
Bonus!!!! You can also buy a lot of candies there because Red October still has a shop there.
